Boys golf weekend nets close to $2 million Keno ‘hole in one’
A golf weekend away for three south Brisbane mates to Lowood has landed them a hole in one beyond their imagination - a $1.98 million 10 number Keno jackpot win at the Club Hotel!
However the win wasn’t going to get in the way of the boys golfing plans, with the boys still hitting the green the morning after their Saturday night win.
“I’m on the seventh hole at Lowood Golf Course, having a good time,” winner Daniel said the morning after.
According to Daniel, the friends dropped into the Club Hotel for a meal together on Saturday 26th June after playing their first golf game for the weekend and decided to pool together and play a few games of Keno while they ate.
“We had a few drinks and I said to the boys, ‘let’s put in $10 each and play some Keno’,” Daniel said.
Daniel said he hadn’t decided how he would spend his winnings, but that he was thrilled for his two younger friends.
“I just feel so good for them because they’re young and just starting out,” he said.
Club Hotel publican, Shayne Long, said the win was the biggest the hotel had experienced and everyone at the hotel was excited that a couple of weekend tourists had scooped the 10-spot win.
“It was very exciting for us. We’ve been here three years and it’s the biggest win we’ve seen,” Shayne said.
“Everyone was ecstatic - I was probably more ecstatic than they were,” he said.
“They were very calm about it and not jumping up and down. The two young guys were considering how they would spend it saying ‘I’ll pay my house off’ and ‘I might buy a new Falcon’.”
Shayne’s wife Toni said the pub was in suspense for some time, as the winning game was the fifth game on the boys’ ticket and they waited until all 30 of their games had played out.
“When the jackpot went off, everyone in the pub was asking ‘who is it?’. Nobody knew who it was for what seemed like ages,” Toni said.
“They waited until all their games had played out but I think they had a bit of an idea they’d won it before then,” she said.
The winning numbers were 4, 5, 9, 24, 26, 33, 47, 50, 67 and 74 - and the winning ticket cost just $30 - a $10 investment for each of the winners.
According to Keno’s Queensland Sales Manager, Brian Laws, the win was the perfect example of what a night out with Keno is all about.
“Keno just adds that extra dimension of excitement and fun to a night out with friends or family,” Brian said.
“We love it when a group of friends win a big jackpot together; it’s the spirit of what Keno is all about - having a laugh and sharing the anticipation and excitement of winning with your mates,” he said.
